Sadly, what we see in the São Paulo State Court is worse within the days pass and are usefull only to encourage bad and sexist behavior.
The decisions that define the amounts to be payed by man, husbands ou partners that put woman, wives or partners to humiliating situations like financial control, threatening or insulting are a reason to be ashamed of.
Recently the 06th São Paulo Private Law Chamber ordered the husband to pay compensation in the amount of R$20,000.00 to the wife who actually proved the damage:
“From the facts narrated and proven by the plaintiff, it is clear that the couple's separation was permeated by intense domestic violence, which in itself reveals the seriousness of what happened and the psychological suffering to which she was subjected, insulted, seriously humiliated in her honor and financially controlled. The plaintiff demonstrated the damage to her emotional sphere resulting from the unlawful conduct”
However, there's light o the end of the tunel: other courts such as the TJ/RS have set much higher amounts and, in many cases, the STJ itself has increased the amounts set by the state courts.
